BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Haverford College's 16th-ranked field hockey team pulled away from a determined Bryn Mawr College squad Thursday afternoon as the visiting Fords lengthened a win streak over the Owls to 14 years with an 8-3 Centennial Conference victory at Applebee Field.

The victory over Bryn Mawr was Haverford's 16th in a row, beginning with a 2-0 win in 1999.

Jen DiMaria and Mary Hobbs paced Haverford (10-4, 5-2 Centennial) Thursday with two goals apiece while three different Owls scored one each for Bryn Mawr (5-9, 0-8).

After a flurry of goals in the opening four minutes -- including DiMaria's score just 18 seconds into the game -- gave Haverford a 2-1 edge on the scoreboard, Bryn Mawr's Ashley Arbuckle pulled her team even in the 21st minute. The Fords answered by scoring the next six goals over a 39-minute span to put the game out of reach.

The tie-breaking goal came off an errant pass by a Bryn Mawr defender that got past Owls goalie Alex Weinfeld four minutes after Arbuckle had knotted the game up. Hobbs added her second of the day shortly before the half to push the lead to 4-2 and then DiMaria notched her second of the game three minutes into second-half action to push the lead to three.

Bryn Bissey, Christina Gould and Bridget Gibbons completed the six-goal streak for the Fords with goals 14 minutes apart. Bissey's and Gibbons' goals were unassisted with Hobbs getting the assist on Gould's tally.

Haverford out shot the Owls by a 36-9 edge, registered a 24-9 advantage in shots on goal and finished with a 17-7 edge in penalty corners.

Sydney Hyder earned the win in goal for the Fords coming up with a pair of saves in nearly 52 minutes of game action. Courtney Knill stepped in for Hyder over the game's final 18 minutes and also came up with two saves. Weinfeld took the loss but was solid between the pipes for Bryn Mawr, handling much of the Haverford pressure by turning back 16 shots.

Thursday's win, coupled with upset losses by Ursinus College and Johns Hopkins University, allows the Fords -- tied with Gettysburg College and Washington College for second place in the conference standings -- to put some distance between the trio of teams and fifth-place Muhlenberg which is 4-4 in league games. Franklin & Marshall College sits atop the standings at 7-0 with nine days left in the regular season.

Haverford returns home to Swan Field for its next two outings beginning with Saturday's noontime contest against McDaniel College.
