Two-game win streak ends at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Allison Martin netted her first goal of the year and added a defensive save, but Haverford College's field hockey team dropped a 2-1 Centennial Conference decision to host McDaniel College Saturday evening at Gill Stadium.

Martin scored early in second half action to pull Haverford (7-6, 3-4 CC) into a 1-1 tie with the Green Terror (8-6, 3-4), but the hosts notched what would become the game-winner in the 52nd minute to pull off the victory.

Early action Saturday saw McDaniel gain an extra-man opportunity on a green card but Martin's defensive stop at the 6:46 mark negated the Green Terror's scoring chance. Four minutes later, though, the hosts were able to break on top with a score from Sarah Meszler.

The Fords out shot McDaniel by an 8-3 count during the opening 35 minutes and earned a 5-1 edge in penalty corners but weren't able to find the equalizer until early second-half action.

Brenna Boehman fed Martin in the circle for the tying goal less than two minutes into the period providing the sophomore with her first goal of the season.

Haverford continued to mount pressure in its attacking end but a counter-attack break-away following a Green Terror defensive save in the 50th minute provided McDaniel with a scoring opportunity which it finally completed two minutes later with a goal from Lara Haab to push the home team into a 2-1 lead.

The Fords closed out the final minutes with three corner chances and four shots but the McDaniel defense held firm to finish off the victory.

Lindsey Lopes ended the game with four saves in goal for Haverford but took the loss between the pipes. The Green Terror's Caila White earned the win after making seven saves.

The Centennial slate continues for Haverford with its next game, a Wednesday night trip to Chestertown, Md., for a 7 p.m. contest at Washington College.
