Rowan Tops Field Hockey 3-1 in Season Opener

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 24 Rowan Profs scored twice in the second half to defeat the Haverford College field hockey team 3-1 at Swan Field on Saturday afternoon.

Rowan's Jenna Pressler scored the game-winner in the 46th minute while her teammate Sam Browne scored her second goal of the game in the 64th minute to put the contest out of reach.

The Profs got the scoring started in the seventh minute when Browne scored her first of the season. Haverford sophomore and 2013 All-Centennial Conference second team member Sarah Waldis quickly responded with a goal to tie the score at one in the 11th minute.

Rowan tried to quickly answer with four shots over the four minutes of game action, but Haverford goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes kept the Profs at bay with two saves of her own. Lopes finished with six saves in the first half and nine in the game.

Pressler's game winner came off a short corner from Kellie Campbell in the second half.  The Fords had seven shots in the second half, but couldn't muster a game-tying goal before Browne's second goal of the game made the score 3-1.

Goalkeeper Carly DeMarco made seven saves in the victory for Rowan.

The Fords get back in action with a home match at Swan Field vs. Eastern University on Wednesday (Sept. 3) beginning at 4:30 p.m.
