Field Hockey Falls To Lebanon Valley Despite Career High From Lopes

ANNVILLE, Pa. -  The Haverford College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen today at Arnold Field.

The Dutchmen peppered the Fords' goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes with shots early in the first half, but Lopes made four saves in the first five minutes of the game to keep Lebanon Valley off the scoreboard. The Fords registered a penalty corner in the 25th minute which created a rebound out in front of the net for senior Jen DiMaria to stuff past the Dutchmen goaltender Kendra Moll for her third goal of the season.

Lebanon Valley tied the game as Megan Arnst put one by Lopes on a rebound attempt in the 30th minute of the first half. The score remained tied at one with Lopes leading the way for the Fords. She would wind up with a career-high 13 saves in the contest.

Both teams waited out a lighting delay at halftime that lasted over an hour. The Dutchmen scored 34 seconds into the second half on a penalty stroke by Kristen Garman. Arnst scored her second of the game in the 44th minute from Garman to add to the Dutchmen's advantage. The Fords had 10 penalty corners in the game and nine shots on goal, but could only muster the one goal by Moll who finished with eight saves in the win.

Senior Catherine Aronowitz, freshman Elena Veale and sophomore Sarah Waldis all finished with two shots on goal for the Fords. The Fords fell to 1-2 on the season while the Dutchmen remained undefeated (3-0). Haverford gets back on the field at home vs. Randolph-Macon next Saturday (Sept. 13) beginning at 1:00 p.m.
