No. 22 Dickinson Defeats Field Hockey 4-0 in Centennial Opener

CARLISLE, Pa. – A second half flurry of goals by the No. 22 Dickinson Red Devils was the difference as they defeated the Haverford College field hockey team 4-0 at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.

Haverford's first scoring opportunity came in the fifth minute off a penalty corner from senior Catherine Aronowitz.  Freshman Elena Veale had her shot blocked and her quick follow-up was saved by Dickinson's goalie Emily Fuss.

In the sixth minute, the Red Devils got on the board with a goal from Catherine Perlmutter on an assist from Alyssa Stillwell.

The Fords' best chance to score came off a penalty corner from Aronowitz in the 23rd minute. Junior Allison Martin's shot was saved by Fuss and freshman Stephanie Terrell's shot off the rebound was also stopped. Haverford had two more penalty corners over the next few minutes, but it could only muster one shot that was wide.

In the second half, the Red Devils really pushed the tempo on offense. They scored three goals over the first 12 minutes of the half to put the game out of reach. The Fords had four straight shots around the 60th minute of the game, but Fuss made three saves to preserve the shutout.

Veale led the Fords with four shots on goal, while senior Jen DiMaria added two shots in the loss. The Red Devils had three players with at least two shots on goal led by Perlmutter, who had a team-high two goals. Fuss made nine saves in the victory.

Haverford fell to 2-4 and 0-1 in the Centennial Conference while No. 22 Dickinson improved to 7-1 and 1-0 in the conference. The Fords will host Misericordia in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday at Swan Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
