DALLAS, Pa. – The Haverford College field hockey team won its fourth consecutive game with a 3-1 victory over the Misericordia University Cougars at Mangelsdorf Field on Wednesday night.

The first scoring chance for either team came in the sixth minute. Misericordia's Lindsay Hischak thought she had a clear shot of the back of the cage, but junior Natalie Leslie stopped the ball before it crossed the goal line. The Fords had their first threat a minute later as Leslie had a penalty corner, but senior Allison Martin's shot was wide.

The two teams played evenly in the first half with the Fords recording a slight edge in shots (6-5) and penalty corners (4-3). Haverford broke through in the 29th minute as sophomore Elena Veale tallied her fourth goal of the year off an assist from junior Nicole Witte.

Senior captain Sarah Waldis scored in her third straight game as she gave the Fords a 2-0 lead four minutes into the second half. 16 of the senior's 22 career points have come this season. The Cougars quickly answered about five minutes later with a goal from Suzhaunna Lerch.

In the 48th minute, Veale added her second of the contest. It's the sophomore third career multi-goal outing and second this season. Her five goals in 2015 surpasses her mark from last year. Misericordia had four shots over the final 20 minutes of the game, but senior Lindsey Lopes made two saves to secure the victory.

Haverford has not lost to Misericordia in four games all-time. The Fords are now 5-2 on the season while Misericordia falls to 2-5. The field hockey team's game vs. Rowan, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been moved to October 12th because of Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia this weekend. The Fords will now travel to Muhlenberg next Wednesday with the game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
