
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) announced a pair of academic awards on Thursday afternoon, and Haverford student-athletes garnered both of the plaudits. Haverford placed 18 student-athletes on the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. Additionally, the Fords were named a Division III national academic team.
The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
Haverford was one of only nine Division III field hockey programs to place at least 18 student-athletes on the National Academic Squad.
Taking home the award for the third time were Sarah Betti, Jolie Brakey, Paige Carson, Alexandra Fascione-Hutchins and Stephanie Terrell. Second-time honorees included Keri Cronin, Charlotte Eisenberg, Abby Frerotte, Sarah Lambros, Mason McNulty, Alissa Valentine and Nicole Witte. First time honorees were Caroline Aronowitz, Juliana Baydar, Rylee Fennell, Rachel Gordon, Danielle Rette and MacKenzie Somers.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Haverford was one of 124 squads earning recognition.
Haverford (10-8 in 2016) won 10 games for the sixth time in seven seasons under head coach Jackie Cox, a single season total had only been achieved four times before her arrival to campus. The Fords made the Centennial Conference playoffs for the seventh time in eight seasons in 2016
