Ariana Sulpizio Named PhilaFH Offensive Player of The Week

Full PhilaFH Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College field hockey junior Ariana Sulpizio has been named a PhilaFieldHockey.com Offensive Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon. Sulpizio was the only Division III honoree, joining Tonya Botherway of St. Josephs, Meghan Vermeil of Villanova, and Dani Batze of Temple in receiving the first weekly plaudits of 2019.

Sulpizio was Haverford's top offensive contributor in a 9-0 win over Immaculata in the season opener on Friday, scoring four goals and adding two assists to her ledger. Sulpizio became the first Haverford player with four or more goals in a single contest since Jen DiMaria '15 added five in a win over Swarthmore on November 1, 2014. As a team, Haverford also scored the most goals in a single contest since posting 11 against the Garnet in that same 2014 matchup. Haverford's eight assists on the afternoon matched the second-most in program history.

The Moorestown, N.J. product finished the week with five shots on goal, and a whopping 10 points. Two of Sulpizio's goals came on deflections, as the forward twice teamed up with high school classmate Roxy Vassighi on scores with the two in cohesion in the waning minutes of the contest.

Through the first weekend of the season, Sulpizio leads the Centennial Conference in goals (4) and points (10), while Haverford checks in as the conference's top offense, as well as the fourth ranked offense in the nation with 13 goals scored and a .302 shot percentage.

The Fords (2-0) return to action on Wednesday, facing a midweek test against local foe Cabrini (1-1) at 5 p.m. on Swan Field.
