Anna Kirn Named Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College field hockey first year midfielder Anna Kirn has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced in its first weekly awards release on Wednesday morning.

Kirn, from Enola, Pa., notched a breakout start to her first season on campus, tallying a goal in a 9-0 season opening triumph over Immaculata. Kirn kept up the same intensity and strong level of play in Sunday's contest with Alvernia. Kirn scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on a third against the Golden Wolves in a 4-2 victory that assured Haverford its third consecutive 2-0 start to the season.

The selection of Kirn to the weekly honors marks the second straight season in which a Haverford first year has been bestowed with Offensive Player of the Week during the first full month of the season. Last season, Ravenel Davis was honored after scoring a pair of goals, including the game winner, against Eastern on September 8.

After the first weekend of play across the Centennial Conference landscape, Haverford checks in as the conference's top offense, as well as the fourth ranked offense in the nation, with 13 goals scored and a .302 shot percentage.

The Fords return to action this afternoon, facing a midweek test against local foe Cabrini at 5 p.m. on Swan Field. The contest is the final game of a three-game homestand to begin the season. The squad then hits the road for a Saturday morning matchup at Eastern (11 a.m.) on September 7.
