BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Haverford College field hockey program placed 22 members of the team on the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced in a release on Thursday afternoon.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by OPA Winning Teams, honors collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.
More than 2,300 student-athletes from 161 Division III institutions have been named to the 2021 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. In addition, 323 have been named for four consecutive seasons, a distinction applied to Haverford seniors Caroline Channell, Ravenel Davis, Sophia Mercado, Julie Post, Hannah Roth, and Keishla Sanchez.
Joining those six seniors in earning the award were juniors Olivia Ahart, Dalia Bercow, Sophie Frem, Anna Kirn, Delaney Snowden, and Lexie Streicher, along with sophomores Anna Bradley, Allison Cubell, Zora Dallmann, Clare Fleming, Annika Kline, and Margaret Martin. First years Zoey Despines, Vy Le, Ileana Rodriguez, and Mary Smith were also honored after their first semesters on campus.
Haverford finished the 2021 season with a berth in the Centennial Conference tournament, returning to the postseason for the first time since the 2017 season and making a ninth playoff appearance overall. Haverford won 13 of its first 15 contests to begin the year and finished just one victory shy of matching the program's single-season wins record in an electryfing season. Field Hockey also notched a pair of ranked wins, taking down No. 8 Rowan and No. 18 Franklin & Marshall en route to joining the national rankings themselves, peaking at No. 17 in the Division III National Coaches Poll in October. Davis was named an All-American, becoming Haverford's fifth NFHCA All-American honoree and first since 2012.
More academic honors are slated to be released by the NFHCA throughout the month of February, as the organziation honors its National Academic Teams and Scholars of Distinction.
