HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College field hockey team (2-0) earned its second consecutive victory to open up the 2023 campaign, closing out its Labor Day weekend slate with a commanding 3-0 victory over visiting Centre (0-2).

The Fords got on the scoreboard first, as first year Erica Pardon lit the lamp with her first career tally after Anna Bradley found her teammate down low in front of the cage. Pardon was in perfect position to tap home the goal, giving the Fords a 1-0 lead in just the fifth minute of action.

Haverford doubled its advantage before halftime, and this time, it was Bradley weaving through the Centre defense and rocketing a shot towards the far post for her third goal of the season in the 24th minute.

Not content to keep things to a two-goal cushion, the Fords fired on the cage with regularity in the third stanza, but Centre denied a trio of those early attempts. The Fords earned 10 penalty corners between the second and third periods and outshot Centre 16-6 for the contest.

Mary Smith was called into action to deny a few Centre salvos, but much of the action took place in Haverford's attacking third for the remainder of the contest. In the 55th minute, Amy Kim drilled in a goal from distance for Haverford's third goal of the game as Haverford held the visitors without a shot for the final 10 minutes of action.

Smith added her second consecutive shutout, finishing with five saves, while Holly Vincent recorded a trio of shots on goal. Allison Cubell also added a pair of shots on frame.

Centre was paced by Claire Martin who fired a pair of shots while Carlie McKenry made six saves in the cage for the Colonels.

Haverford now heads out on the road for a pair of contests. Next up is a battle at Stockton on September 6 before the Fords travel to Alvernia on Saturday, September 9. The next home game at Swan Field is slated for September 13 against Elizabethtown.
