HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College field hockey team (3-2)  returned to the win column with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Elizabethtown (2-2) Wednesday evening on Swan Field. The Fords scored both goals on corner plays, using a 13-2 advantage in that category to control the offensive tempo all evening long.  The Fords fired 17 shots to just six for the Blue Jays, and held most of the possession in the contest.

In the 7th minute, Amy Kim sent a corner attempt into the top of the circle where Holly Vincent fired in, finding the waiting stick of Anna Bradley, who knocked in her fourth of the season with precision to open the scoring.

From that point, the Fords were back on the prowl offensively for much of the first half. Elizabethtown earned its first corner in the 21st minute, but Mary Smith made a save on a Chloe Smith shot. The redirection found the stick of Drew Bridges, who fired on frame, but Margaret Martin was the last line of defense, swatting away the attempt for a defensive save.

Smith was tested twice in the final seconds of the half, but all the momentum remained on the Haverford side. The Fords broke through in the 43rd minute, with Erica Pardon firing a corner attempt in and Vincent again in perfect position to rocket a shot that deflected off a defender and into the back of the cage for her first goal of the season.

Haverford kept the offensive rhythm up in the fourth, but could not find another goal, content to take the third home shutout of the season as the Fords have yet to allow a goal on Swan Field.

Bradley had a game-high four shots, including two on frame, while Vincent, Zoey Despines, and Louisa Coughlin all had multiple shots in the contest. Drew Bridges and Hannah Long were the only Blue Jays with multiple shots on frame.

Smith logged her third shutout of the season, notching three saves, while Rachel Murphy made six saves in 60 minutes between the pipes for the visitors. The Fords avenged a 3-2  overtime loss to Elizabethtown a season ago.

Haverford will now have the weekend off from competition, returning to game action at home on Wednesday, September 20 against No. 8 Rowan on Swan Field. The first pass is slated for 7 p.m.
