HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College field hockey team (7-5, 3-2 CC) picked up a massive Centennial Conference win on Wednesday evening, as the Fords upset 10th-ranked Bryn Mawr 1-0, on a crisp Autumn Wednesday evening at Swan Field.

The first quarter saw multiple opportunities for both teams, as Lauren Barlow had a shot stopped by Mary Smith just four minutes into the game, and teammate Eva Yacura put a shot just wide of the cage with 10 minutes left in the opening quarter.

With just a few minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Fords threatened to find the back of the cage off of multiple penalty corners, however, Louisa Coughlin and Holly Vincent both had tempting shots blocked by the Owls' defense.

In the second quarter, Bryn Mawr upped the offensive pressure, as shots by Maggie Barilla at and Sophie Vagts were turned away by dazzling saves from Smith.

With just under two minutes to go in the half, Haverford was knocking on the doorstep, as a Louisa Coughlin shot off a penalty corner went towards the near post, however, Charlene Basque made a fantastic kick save to keep the ball from going into the back of the cage.

Erica Pardón got things started in the third quarter, finding herself on a breakaway chance. A diving Basque turned the chance away, smothering the ball away from the sophomore attacker.

A quiet fourth quarter quickly turned into joyous screams and shouts, as the Scarlet and Black scored a crucial goal with just 4:38 remaining in the contest. Following a penalty corner from Pardón, Holly Vincent chopped a menacing pass towards the cage. The ball skipped towards the far post, where Rachel Marlin slapped the ball into the cage, giving the Fords a huge 1-0 lead with just moments remaining.

Time eventually ran out on Bryn Mawr, as Haverford was able to collect a massive upset over the No. 10 Owls. The win marks the first upset over a ranked team since defeating No. 10 Rowan on September 20, 2023 and the first win over the Owls since a 6-0 blanking on October 25, 2017.

The Scarlet and Black outshot the Owls 7-6, while holding a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners. Pardón and Coughlin paced the Fords in shots with two each, with Pardón placing both of her attempts on frame.

Swan Field will be the site of Field Hockey's next contest, as the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall will pay a visit to the 'Ford for another massive matchup as the Centennial Conference playoff chase heats up. The game will be Haverford's Think Pink game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and push back is slated for 1 p.m.
