Fords post undefeated MACFA weekend

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Haverford College men's fencing team completed an undefeated weekend of competition when it registered four wins in Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association round robin action Sunday on the campus of University of Maryland at College Park. The Fords had defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday to kick off a busy weekend schedule.

A 14-13 victory over Johns Hopkins highlighted the day of competition as the Blue Jays had beaten Haverford, 19-8, earlier in the season. The foilists, riding momentum from a strong performance on Saturday, swept Johns Hopkins, 9-0, to key the hard-fought win.

Other than the tightly contested Johns Hopkins match, the Fords rolled to large margins of victory over William & Mary, University of Virginia, and host University of Maryland (College Park).

Foilists Sam Levinson, Max Findley, and Lawrence Wang posted only two losses in the whole tournament to lead Haverford. Also registering a strong effort was senior captain Andrew Bostick of the epee squad, who finished 10-3 on the day. Joshua Nadel led the sabrists with a 4-8 record.

The Fords will take a breather this coming weekend before starting the championship portion of their season at the National Weapon Squad Championships, held Feb. 26 at New York University.
