Season Review: Impressive campaign for men's fencing

Season Review: Impressive campaign for men's fencing

Signature Wins: The Fords were 12-1 in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Conference, while other notable team wins were over rivals Vassar and MIT. The strongest and most consistent squad on the season was the foil, who took down Brown University's vaunted players 6-3, beat Brandeis University's Judges 5-4, and contributed a first-ever program win over the University of Pennsylvania, 5-4, with sophomore Max Findley going undefeated against the Quakers.

Season Notes: Haverford finished third of 14 teams in the MACFA final standings, with losses to Stevens Institute and Johns Hopkins, which ended their streak of consecutive conference championships at three … Senior Aaron Ruby won the silver medal in the MACFA individual sabre, tying a previous best finish. Freshman foilist Baptiste Teyssier was the next highest MACFA finisher with a fourth-place showing, and senior Sam Levinson was also a foil finalist, placing eighth … Ruby finished seventh at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship to put himself in line for an At-Large bid to the NCAA Nationals for the second time in his career.

Postseason Honors:

Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) team bronze medal

MACFA individual silver medal: Aaron Ruby

All-MACFA first team: Baptiste Teyssier

All-MACFA second team: Sam Levinson

NCAA Regional Championships Finalist: Aaron Ruby (seventh; At-Large)

Looking Ahead: The Fords will have strong leadership next year with co-captains Max Findley and Lawrence Wang, who embody the traditions of focus on the strip, dedication in the practice room, and firm guidance to the team that has been passed on to them. The foil squad of Findley, Wang, and Baptiste Teyssier will lead the less-experienced epee and sabre squads in the upcoming season, as several talented newcomers fill out those squads' rosters.
