The men's fencing team is ready to embark on the journey of the soul that the grueling season embodies. A well prepared, well-conditioned team peppered with seasoned, crafty veterans and a strong freshman class looks to regain its berth at the top of the Middle Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA), the conference the team has been a member of for over 50 years, and has dominated in recent years. 

Junior co-captain Max Findley, a 2012 MACFA silver medalist, and fellow co-captain and MACFA finalist Lawrence Wang lead a deep foil squad that handed defeats to many Division I opponents last year, while sabre and epee squad leaders Darwin Keung and Warren Schwartz, respectively, lead younger squads who are eager to show their talent on the national stage.

The fencing team culture provides a path for growth for the freshmen, as the levels of opponents are varied and wide ranging. Haverford fencers typically compete in more matches than every other varsity program in the country, providing an opportunity to gain experience for the younger members and a chance to go head-to-head with the best in the country for the starting crew.  Junior Josh Nadel on the sabre squad is an example of a fencer who has cut his teeth dominating Division III and club teams, and is ready to contribute wins over Haverford's top rivals. Freshmen recruits Eric Gardner in epee and Aldis Gamble in foil look ready to be contributors in their first year, while a talented crop of freshmen sabrists are vying for starting positions. As the team moves through the season gaining experience and wisdom, they may again challenge for the MACFA Championship, last won in 2012.
