Fencing Teams Welcome Back Alumni

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's and women's fencing programs welcomed back their alumni for the annual alumni bouts that were followed by a banquet where the current varsity team got the chance to meet with the fencers that have come before them and established the tradition of Haverford fencing.

The day began with two hours of spirited fencing between the alumni and the current varsity team. Following the chance to compete against and learn from the alumni fencers, the team hosted a banquet for its former student-athletes that returned to campus.

Returning alumni were David Greene '56, Laszlo Kopits '87, Josh Mertz '06, Chris Flanders '07, Max Rosen-Long '09, Lee Flaherty '12, Aaron Ruby '13, Katie Elbert '14, Shannon Horn '14, Elisabeth Hawthorne '16, Amira Abujbara '17, Jake Bassinder '17, and Eric Gardner '17. Also returning for the alumni fesitivites was former head coach Dave Littell who led the programs from 2000-06.

Both varsity teams continue their seasons this coming Saturday at the Eric Sollee Invitational at Brandeis. Fencing is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.
