HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's fencing team certainly put on a show in its lone home duals of the year as the Fords went 3-0 during the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational/MACFA "C" Bouts on Saturday. The Fords' strong showing included wins over William & Mary, Navy, and Johns Hopkins to go 3-0 in their first weekend of conference action.

Haverford's foilists dominated the Blue Jays with a perfect 9-0 squad mark in that showdown between the rival institutions. Fueled by the shutout in foil, the Fords' team win was the first dual victory over Johns Hopkins since the 2012 season. Additionally, the Fords did beat the Blue Jays during the MACFA Team Championships in the 2019 championship. The 18-9 final score tied for the most decisive in series history which now features 74 all-time meetings. The Fords were also 18-9 winners against their rivals during the 2011 season and way back in the 1941 campaign. Haverford's 16-11 victory over Navy a round earlier avenged a Fords' setback in dual competition last season.

Jack Leighninger was 7-1 on the day to pace the foil squad, including a perfect round against Johns Hopkins to close his day. Co-captain Alton Wiggers matched that 3-0 record against JHU while also picking up a win in his lone bout against William & Mary as he finished with a 5-2 win rate. Carter Langen won his two bouts against the Blue Jays as part of his 6-2 record. Foil's strong showing against JHU allowed William Moore to step into the lineup and also notch a victory in the final round's clean sweep. Haverford's foil squad finished with a 19-8 record over three rounds as its day also included hard-fought 5-4 victories against William & Mary and Navy.

Haverford's sabre squad won its weapon matchup with the Blue Jays by a 5-4 score. John Hare was a perfect 9-0 on the afternoon to lead all Fords. Right behind him was Nicholas Conroy who posted an 8-1 mark, suffering his only defeat on a decisive fifth touch against the Blue Jays. Aaron Xu supported the strong sabre effort with a win against William & Mary as sabre joined its foil counterparts, notching a perfect record in squad matchups.

Co-captain Kadan Lottick was also undefeated on the day with seven victories. He was subbed out of the lineup for two bouts against Johns Hopkins with the overall team score secured as Jack Crump took his place against the tough opposition. Edward Shin finished second to Lottick with a 6-2 record in epee, but closed his day with a perfect 3-0 mark against the Blue Jays. Adrian Velonis added to epee's squad victories against William & Mary and Navy with wins during both of those rounds.

Off to a perfect start in conference matchups, men's fencing will now break from competition for the remainder of the fall semester. When the Fords do return to the strips, they will be competing against some of the toughest foes they will face all season as the second semester begins with the Penn State Invitational on Sunday, January 12.
