WALTHAM, Mass. – The Haverford College men's fencing team took part in the Eric Sollee Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Hosted at Brandeis this year, each of the Fords' weapon squads earned victories as both the foilists and sabrists edged the host Judges while the epee squad defeated Ivy League foe Brown.

Sabrist Nicholas Conroy and epeeist Kadan Lottick both registered winning records against the challenging competition as the Fords continue to test themselves in preparation for the postseason. Conroy finished 9-8 overall on the day, splitting his two bouts in the squad victory against Brandeis while also recording two wins against NYU, Brown, and MIT. Fellow sabrist John Hare capped his day with a perfect 3-0 record against Brandeis and won two bouts against Brown and Stevens to finish his day with eight victories. Kagan Harris also found success on the strips against Brandeis, securing another key bout to help his weapon earn a squad victory.

Lottick led the epeeists with an 8-7 record. Haverford's co-captain posted a 2-1 record during his squad's victory against Brown. He earned at least one victory during each of his five rounds in the lineup, also notching multiple wins against Boston College and MIT. Edward Shin was at his best when the epee squad needed him most as he also went 2-1 against the Ivy League Bears en route to five victories on the day. Adrian Velonis secured another crucial bout in the 5-4 weapon squad win and totaled three victories on the day.

Haverford's foilists made it two weapon squad wins against host Brandeis during the final round of fencing as they secured a 5-4 win in the round. Jack Leighninger was triumphant in two of his three bouts that round and led his squad with seven victories throughout the day. Carter Langen also vanquished two foes from Brandeis to help in that victory while Alton Wiggers added another bout victory to the squad's total. Langen and Wiggers finished with six and three victories, respectively, during their turns in the lineup.

Men's fencing will resume MACFA action this Sunday, February 9 at the "A" vs. "C" bouts which will be contested at Johns Hopkins. The Fords got off to a perfect 3-0 start in MACFA competition back in November at the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational/MACFA "C" bouts and will look to keep that momentum rolling this coming weekend.
