NEWARK, N.J. – The Haverford College men's fencing team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 3-2 record at the MACFA "B" vs. "C" bouts on Sunday afternoon. Hosted by NJIT, the Fords dominated the second through fourth rounds of competition with resounding wins against Yeshiva, Army-West Point, and Hunter. Haverford dropped its first and last matches of the day to Stevens and the host Highlanders, but still finished the MACFA regular season slate with an 11-3 record overall.

Haverford's foilists led the three weapon squads with a 31-14 record over the five rounds of action on the strips, highlighted by a 26-1 record during the team's three victories. Jack Leighninger and Carter Langen fenced all five rounds for the Fords and posted identical team-best 11-4 records. Both fencers were a perfect 3-0 during the middle three rounds while collecting one other bout against the Ducks and NJIT. Co-captain Alton Wiggers fenced his way to a 7-5 record, highlighted by sweeps of Yeshiva and Hunter. William Moore entered the lineup during the win against Army-West Point and won two of his three bouts that round as all four of Haverford's foilists capped their afternoon with winning records.

The sabre squad saw three individuals post winning marks. Kagan Harris led the sabrists with eight victories over the final four rounds of fencing. John Hare finished with the best win percentage as he went 2-1 against both Stevens and NJIT while sweeping aside all his foes versus Army. Nicholas Conroy registered the third winning record for the squad as he went 6-3. His day started with a 2-1 performance against Stevens before taking all three bouts against Army. Conroy closed his day with one final victory against NJIT. Neville Linden (4-5 overall) contributed to a pair of team victories with a 4-2 record against Yeshiva and Hunter while Aaron Xu was also a part of those squad wins, registering three more victories during those same rounds.

A 5-4 record from co-captain Kadan Lottick headlined the performance from the Fords' epeeists as that squad also registered three hard-fought victories. Lottick was 3-0 against Hunter while also taking a bout against both Stevens and NJIT. Raynor Bond-Ashpole contributed five wins to the squad, highlighted by 2-1 rounds against both Yeshiva and Army. Adrian Velonis fenced all five rounds for the epee squad and won five bouts. His day started with a victory over Stevens and he later added four more victories during the team's triumphs. Jack Crump got into the lineup during the squad win against Army and contributed to the 5-4 squad win with another crucial victory.

Following strong results against MACFA foes throughout the regular season, the Fords will have the upcoming weekend away from live action before competing against these teams a second time when the postseason journey begins. The 2020 MACFA Championships will be hosted by Drew on Sunday, March 1 with fencing set to get underway at 9 a.m. in Madison, New Jersey. Haverford placed fourth overall at last year's MACFA Championship and has had back-to-back runner-up finishes from the sabre squad after taking home that squad title during the 2017 championship.
