Men's Fencing Travels to Penn State Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Haverford College men's fencing team concluded its weekend at the Penn State Invitational on Sunday afternoon, facing a formidable slate of opponents for the second consecutive week. After competing at the Penn Invitational last weekend, the Fords once again squared off against several top Division I programs, including the host Nittany Lions, Penn, Princeton, Columbia, North Carolina, and Wagner.

Round 1: Penn State 18, Haverford 9
Haverford opened the day with an impressive 5-4 foil squad victory over the Nittany Lions. Dean Myers led the way with three wins, while Michael Pyo and Andrew Strayer each added one. In epee, Eric Chen earned two wins, and Vivek Veluvali contributed the third tally for the Fords. Jack Greff secured Haverford's lone victory in sabre.

Round 2: Princeton 20, Haverford 7
Against the Tigers, the Fords recorded three victories in foil and four in epee. Myers posted two wins in foil, with Pyo adding another. Chen delivered a flawless 3-0 performance in epee, while Veluvali picked up a win to round out the scoring.

Round 3: Columbia 24, Haverford 3
Taking on the Lions, Haverford earned an early foil win from Myers, while Chen notched a victory in epee for the Fords' final tally of the round.

Round 4: Penn 21, Haverford 6
Facing local rival Penn, Haverford collected four wins in epee and two in foil. Chen continued his strong day with three epee victories, while Veluvali added one. Myers and Pyo accounted for the Fords' two foil wins.

Round 5: North Carolina 25, Haverford 2
Against the Tar Heels in the afternoon session, Haverford secured a sabre win from Deep Patel and an epee victory from Chen.

Round 6: Wagner 17, Haverford 10
The Fords found their greatest success of the day in their matchup with Wagner, highlighted by a 5-4 foil squad victory. Strayer and Pyo each secured two wins, while Henry Bishop contributed another. In epee, Veluvali and Chen each tallied wins. The sabre squad saw Greff earn two victories, while Andy Loo added one to the total against the Seahawks.

Looking Ahead
After another weekend of competing against some of the top programs in the nation, Haverford has much to build on as it transitions to the full conference portion of the season. The Fords will return to action on Sunday, February 2, at the MACFA "A" vs. "C" meet, hosted by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
