BALTIMORE – The Haverford College men's fencing team competed at the Blue Jay Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Goldfarb Gymnasium on the campus of Johns Hopkins University. The event served as the MACFA "A" vs. "C" meet, where the Fords picked up victories over Drew and Rutgers.
Round 2: Haverford 15, Drew 12
Haverford secured a hard-fought victory over the Rangers, winning 5-4 in each of the three weapons. In épée, Vivek Veluvali posted a perfect 3-0 record, while Michael Pyo and Eric Chen each contributed a win. In foil, Andrew Strayer and Henry Bishop each earned two victories, with Dean Myers adding another. The sabre squad was led by Jack Greff's 3-0 performance, while Deep Patel and Prem Bhatt each picked up wins.
Round 3: Lafayette 15, Haverford 12
The Fords battled in a tight contest against the Leopards. The sabre squad fell 5-4 despite victories from Patel, Bhatt, Greff, and Osaretin Idahor. In épée, Haverford dropped a 7-2 decision, but Chen secured two wins. The foil squad responded with a strong showing, as Myers went 3-0, Pyo notched two victories, and Strayer added one.
Round 4: Haverford 15, Rutgers 12
Against the Scarlet Knights, the sabre squad fell 8-1, with Greff earning Haverford's lone victory. However, the Fords dominated épée, as Chen and Veluvali each went 3-0, while Greg Roumiantsev added a win in a 7-2 decision. The foil squad also secured a 7-2 win, led by Pyo's 3-0 record, with Myers adding two victories and Strayer and Bishop each winning once.
Round 5: Cornell 20, Haverford 7
Closing out the day's competition against the Big Red, the Fords fell 5-4 in épée, with Chen continuing his strong performance at 3-0 and Veluvali contributing a win. In foil, Myers posted a perfect 3-0 record to lead Haverford.
With the first MACFA meet of the season now in the books, the Fords return to action on Saturday, February 8, traveling to Madison, N.J., for the Drew Meet.
