MADISON, N.J. – The Haverford College men's fencing team put up a strong fight against Drew University on Saturday at the Simon Forum, but ultimately fell short in a 15-12 dual meet loss to the Rangers.
The Fords claimed victory in the foil (6-3) and epee (5-4) competitions. However, Drew's dominant showing in sabre proved to be the difference, as the Rangers secured an 8-1 victory in the discipline to seal the overall team win. Logan Kleva and Jason Ahlman led the charge for Drew, each earning three bout wins. Deep Patel picked up Haverford's individual sabre win.
Haverford showcased strong performances from Michael Pyo and Dean Myers in foil. Pyo went undefeated, while Myers went 2-1 and Andrew Strayer added a win. Eric Chen secured the decisive win in epee to clinch that weapon for Haverford as part of a stellar 3-0 performance, while Vivek Veluvali won twice.
Despite the loss, Haverford displayed resilience and depth across the board, pushing Drew in a closely contested matchup after taking down the Rangers last weekend at the Blue Jay invitational by this same 15-12 scoreline.
Haverford will now tune-up for next weekend's MACA "B" vs. "C" competition at Stevens. Action on the strips in Hoboken is slated to begin at 10 a.m. inside Canavan Arena.
