Men’s soccer trio make all-conference; Brady named coach of the year

LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the Haverford College men's soccer team were named All-Centennial Conference Tuesday while head coach Bill Brady was voted coach of the year by his peers. Junior Alejandro Rettig y Martinez made second-team and sophomore Matt Gorski and junior Matt Wetherell were named honorable mention.

In just his second season at the helm, Brady led Haverford to eight victories, the most since 2003 and the program's first winning season since 2000. The Fords' four conference victories were the most since winning four in 2002. Brady had the Fords on the doorstep of the Centennial Conference tournament until the final game of the season, finishing the season seventh with 13 points.

Rettig y Martinez finished seventh in the conference and led Haverford with 17 points. His five assists also led the team and tied for fifth in the Centennial. Rettig y Martinez tallied six goals on the season including a pair of two-goal games and two game-winners. Three of his goals came in conference play.

One of Haverford's three captains, Gorski started all 16 games, registered two goals and tied for second on the team with two assists this season. Gorski contributed to an offense which averaged 1.50 goals and 1.06 assists per game which were sixth and fifth-best, respectively, in the conference.

Wetherell, another captain, anchored a defense which allowed just 1.12 goals per game and recorded four shut outs. A durable defender, Wetherell started all 16 games for the second consecutive season.

This is the first time since 2003 that Haverford has had as many as three players make all-conference.
