WESTMINSTER, Md. – Freshman David Robinson's goal with 3:07 remaining on the game clock sent the Haverford College men's soccer team to a, 2-1, Centennial Conference victory over host McDaniel College Saturday afternoon.

With his first collegiate goal Robinson pushed Haverford (3-1-1, 1-0 CC) to its third consecutive win and its first conference-opening win in a season since the Fords took a 2-0 contest over Western Maryland — now McDaniel — in 2001.

This year's Green Terror fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial.

The first 86 minutes of action Saturday afternoon set someone up, from either team, to play the hero.

McDaniel scored first with a goal from Eddy Lingue in the 24th minute.

Looking like they were going to go into the half trailing by a goal, the Fords instead picked up an equalizer from Alejandro Rettig y Martinez with 1:23 left in the opening stanza. Dan Garfing earned the assist on the score which was Rettig y Martinez' third of the season.

Second half action flowed in both directions as each team finished the final 45 minutes with nine shots apiece.

First it was Haverford who took two cracks at breaking the tie early in the half, but then it was the Green Terror's turn as the hosts took the next four shots, two of which made it on goal where Fords goalie Jamey Applegate came up with a pair of saves.

McDaniel had the edge in shots by the time the waning minutes rolled around but the Fords began a flurry of action in their offensive end that turned the momentum in their favor in the 87th minute.

David Restrepo's shot was blocked and 10 seconds later Colin Lubelczyk's shot sailed wide. Haverford regained possession quickly and Robinson broke the deadlock with his tally at 86:53 of the contest.

Haverford owned a 16-13 advantage in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Applegate finished with four saves in the win while Zach Nibbelink registered five saves between the pipes in the loss for McDaniel.

The Fords will try to extend their win streak Wednesday night with a non-conference trip to Penn State-Harrisburg. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
