Men's soccer falls to No. 2 Messiah College, 1-0

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team pushed the defending national champion to its limit, however, No. 2 Messiah College got by the Fords 1-0 in a non-conference match Tuesday night at Gettysburg College's Clark Field.

Falcon forward Danny Thompson scored the game's lone goal in the 61st minute with the help from a crossing pass from midfielder Jack Thompson.

Haverford keeper Andriy Mshanetskyy was strong in defeat by making five saves. The Falcons' Jake Berry recorded one stop. Messiah (2-0-1) outshot Haverford, 15-3.

The game was originally slated to be played at Messiah but was moved to Gettysburg because heavy rain made Messiah's field unplayable.

Haverford (1-1-0) returns to the friendly confines of Walton Field to take on visiting Goucher College in the opening game of the Jimmy Mills Invitational Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m.
