HAVERFORD, Pa. - Charlie Crawford's shot was deflected inside the right post by teammate Alejandro Rettig y Martinez for what proved to be the game-winning goal in the Haverford College men's soccer team's 3-1 non-conference win over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Sunday afternoon at Walton Field. Coupled with Saturday's victory, the Fords captured the title of their own Jimmy Mills Tournament.

Already leading off a score by Colin Lubelczyk, Rettig y Martinez put Haverford (3-1) ahead of the Griffins (1-4) by two goals 34 minutes into the contest.

Gwynedd-Mercy scored early in the second half to trim the deficit in half but Matt Gorski converted a penalty kick opportunity three minutes later to restore the two-goal margin.

Lubelczek opened the scoring flicking a soft header over the Griffins' goalkeeper from just inside the six-yard box in the game's 16th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Lubelczyk.

Haverford held the better of play for most of the game, out shooting Gwynedd-Mercy 21-7 and accumulating 15 corner kick chances compared to just two by the visitors.

Nick Kahn earned the win in goal for the Fords stopping two shots. The Griffins' lone goal came off a rebound from a shot that hit the cross bar and bounced out past Kahn as he stretched for the carom. For Gwynedd-Mercy, Mike Leonard took the loss after registering seven saves.

The Fords earned the Jimmy Mills title on goal differential over runner-up Randolph (Va.) College. The Wildcats defeated Gwynedd, 3-1, on Saturday then took down Goucher College by the same score earlier Sunday. Haverford had defeated Goucher by a 4-0 count in Saturday's opening contest.

Haverford faces a stern test in its next game, opening the Centennial Conference slate with a home contest against Johns Hopkins University at Walton Field next Saturday.
