HAVERFORD, Pa. - Trailing by a goal late, the Haverford College men's soccer team upped the pressure in its offensive zone but visiting Franklin & Marshall College, with the aide of the crossbar once, was able to hold off the Fords for a 1-0 Centennial Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.

David Restrepo's header in the 82nd minute bounced off the crossbar after a direct kick from the Fords (3-4, 0-2 CC) slipped through the hands of leaping F&M (4-2-1, 1-1-1) goalie TJ White. Restrepo was in the right place at the right time behind White but his header rebounded off the bar back out into the field of play where the Dips were able to temporarily clear away the threat.

Haverford generated three more scoring chances over the final eight minutes but one shot was blocked and the other two were stopped by White.

Franklin & Marshall's Sam Lane found the back of the Haverford net with a strong shot inside the post from about 25 yards out to give the Dips the lead in the 31st minute. They would take that lead into halftime and weathered the storm in the closing minutes for the victory.

The Fords out shot F&M by a 16-14 count in the game and generated nine corner kick opportunities to just one by the Dips.

Andriy Mshanetskyy took the loss in goal for Haverford after making two saves, while White earned the win for F&M registering four.

Haverford takes to the road for its next three games starting with a visit to Washington College on Wednesday, Sept. 28 for a 7 p.m. Centennial contest.
