Fords shutdown Nittany Lions, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Three different players found the back of the net as the Haverford College men's soccer team defeated Penn State-Abington, 3-0, in a non-conference match Wednesday on Walton Field.

The Fords improve their overall record to 5-6-1. The team is 2-0-1 in its last three outings. Penn State-Abington goes to 5-7-0.

Midfielder Dan Garfing opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an unassisted goal. His shot was a low line drive from 12 yards out that made it to the right side of the net.

Midfielder Charlie Crawford doubled the advantage by being in the right spot at the right time. In the 31st minute he knocked home a rebound after forward David Restrepo drilled the left post with his shot attempt. The ricochet came right to Crawford who tapped it home and put Haverford up 2-0.

Midfielder Matt Gorski produced the final goal on a penalty kick at the 68:32 mark. The kick was granted after forward Alejandro Rettig y Martinez was pulled to the ground in the penalty area.

Haverford keepers Nick Kahn and Charlie Michele combined for the shutout. Kahn did not face a shot in the first 68:32. Michele played the final 21:28 and made one save. The Nittany Lions' Dan Carmack recorded seven stops. The Fords heavily outshot the Nittany Lions, 17-6, including an 11-2 first-half edge.

Haverford returns to the field Saturday, Oct. 15 for a Centennial Conference showdown at Gettysburg College starting at 1 p.m.
