Gorski earns 2nd-team all-region honors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Senior Matt Gorski of the Haverford College men's soccer team capped a standout career by earning inclusion to the Division III National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2012 All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team, as released by the organization on Wednesday.

Gorski, a first-team All-Centennial Conference honoree in 2011 and 2012, tied for the team lead in goals (seven) and points (16). Ranked among the conference leaders in goals per game (0.37) and points per game (0.84), Gorski tallied two game-winning goals on the season and his penalty kick goal against McDaniel on October 20 established a new program record for penalty kicks made in a career (four). Named honorable mention all-conference in 2010, the midfielder ranks 19th in program history in assists with 16.

The Fords, aided by the leadership of co-captain Gorski, captured the first Centennial title in program history in 2012. Making the program's fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament, Haverford advanced to the second round for the first time by topping Wesleyan (Conn.) University 4-2 on penalty kicks after playing the Cardinals to a 2-2 tie through regulation and a pair of overtime periods. The Fords' historic season came to an end with a 3-0 loss to fifth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology in the round of 32.
