Men's soccer earns spot in national rankings

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Haverford College men's soccer team's impressive start to the season has earned the attention of coaches from around the country as the Fords are ranked 14th in the first Division III National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/ Continental Tires national rankings of the regular season, as announced on Tuesday.

Haverford went undefeated on the opening weekend of 2013 to capture the Drew University Fall Festival title. Scoring three unanswered goals, the Fords rallied past host Drew, 3-2, on Friday and then kept their spotless record intact with a 3-1 victory over SUNY-Geneseo.

The Centennial Conference currently has two teams in the NSCAA top-25 rankings with Dickinson College coming in at No. 17. The Fords host the Red Devils on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. and 11 days later will square off with another ranked opponent when No. 18 Rutgers-Camden visits Walton Field at 4 p.m.

Defending national champion Messiah College (2-0) occupies the top spot in the poll. The Falcons are the lone squad ranked above the Fords in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Haverford, owner of the 2012 Centennial crown, returns to action on Sept. 7 when it welcomes Vassar College at 3:30 p.m. on the first day of the Jimmy Mills Classic.
