HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team scored four first-half goals on its way to a dominating 5-0 victory over visiting Rosemont College in non-conference action at Walton Field on Thursday evening.
Senior Ford Bohrmann set up sophomore Sam Yarosh for his second goal of the season in the contest's ninth minute. It would be all the offense necessary on the day but the Fords (4-1) were far from finished.
Freshman Will Corkery, making his first career start, extended Haverford's lead a little over three minutes later with his first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Colin Lubelczyk.
Corkery's classmate Tejan Walcott, also making the first start of his career, followed suit as he added his first college tally with an unassisted goal at 13:27.
Haverford closed out the first-half scoring on a goal by Lubelczyk in the game's 25th minute. Yarosh was again a factor as he set up the senior for the third tally of his career after a corner kick by Corkery.
The Fords owned the play throughout the half as they earned 10 corner kicks and registered the lone 13 shots of the frame. Rosemont goalie Max McDonald (1-3) made five tough saves to limit Haverford to just four goals at intermission.
After the break, the Fords continued to set the tone as they fired 11 more shots and got one more past McDonald. The duo of Bohrmann and Yarosh connected again to produce Yarosh's second of the game and 10th of his career. Bohrmann has now registered points in each of the first five contests of the season.
The physical battle saw 34 total fouls and five yellow cards. Haverford finished with 15 corner opportunities and accounted for 24 of the 27 shots registered in the game. The Ravens (1-4) managed just one shot on goal against the Fords' tough defense and freshman Sam Miller, in his first collegiate action, turned away Ansu Corneh's offering.
Senior Nick Kahn (4-1) played the first half in goal for the Fords before giving way to Miller.
Haverford shut out Rosemont, a 2012 Colonial States Athletic Conference finalist, for the second straight meeting as the Fords blanked the Ravens, 2-0, in last season's opening contest with Yarosh also netting the game-winner.
The five-goal outburst by Haverford is the most goals scored by the Fords since a 5-0 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy on Sept. 8, 2012.
A break in the schedule gives Haverford over a week off from game action before Centennial Conference play begins. The defending conference champion Fords welcome McDaniel College to Walton Field on Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.
