WESTMINSTER, Md. – The No. 22 Haverford College men's soccer team got a goal from Michael Carr in the 83rd minute of Saturday's Centennial Conference match up against McDaniel to come away with a 1-0 victory on the road. Carr's late heroics keep the Fords (5-1-2, 2-0-0 CC) unbeaten in conference play and tied atop the conference standings.

It was a game the Fords seemingly controlled throughout as they racked up an 8-2 advantage in shots and 6-0 edge in corner kick attempts. Sam Miller, who recorded his third shutout of the season and 17th of his career, stopped one shot in each half to record the victory.

Carr's goal with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation came on a cross from Chris Richards. For both players, their first points of the season came at a very opportune time. Carr's goal was the third of the sophomore's career – all three of which have come in Centennial Conference action. Richards' assist on the cross was the first of his career.

Haverford amassed a 5-1 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes of game action. This span included the first four shots of game action. The Fords looked as though they might have had an early goal when Reiss Berger beat the goalie in the 24th minute only to have a McDaniel defensive player stop his shot before it crossed the line. Miller made a save on a header in the 31st minute of play for his only action of the opening half.

Carr was the only player on either team to record more than one shot in Saturday's conference clash. After watching his first shot get saved in the 47th minute and his second attempt travel over the crossbar in the 81st minute, it was not long before his third attempt was the charm. Less than two minutes after missing high, Carr finished a cross from Richards. The Green Terror's only shot of the second half came when Miller stopped a shot from close range with 12 minutes to go in regulation.

Men's soccer returns home for a pair of matches against strong early season contenders in the Centennial Conference this upcoming week. On Wednesday, the team will take on Washington College at 4 p.m. on Walton Field. Saturday's game against Gettysburg will begin at 3:30 p.m. and pit the only two teams that are 2-0 to date in the Centennial Conference.

Washington College is 1-0-1 in the conference after a 1-1 draw with No. 6 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Gettysburg is the only other 2-0 team in the conference after a 3-2 win against Muhlenberg on Saturday night.
