Four Named All-Centennial Conference for Men's Soccer

All-Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team had four players selected to the All-Centennial Conference team as announced by conference officials on Wednesday. Nick Jannelli (first team), Ben Field (second team), and Dorian Wirz (honorable mention) were each named to the all-conference team for a second consecutive season. Ben Clark (second team) earned his first All-Centennial Conference recognition this fall.

Nick Jannelli earned first-team All-Centennial Conference honors for the first time in his career. The 2016 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, and second-team All-Centennial Conference selection last year, had an even more productive sophomore campaign with a team-best 13 goals, four assists, and 30 points. His goal and point totals ranked third overall in the Centennial Conference. However, his seven goals and 14 points in Centennial Conference matches were the second-best mark among his conference peers. A perfect 4-for-4 on penalty kick opportunities this year, Jannelli recorded six game-winning goals.

Senior co-captain Ben Field repeated his second-team All-Centennial Conference recognition from his junior season. Field scored three goals and finished the season with seven points, doing all his damage in Centennial Conference contests. He scored during the regular season against playoff teams Franklin & Marshall and Dickinson, along with tallying the game-winning goal vs. Washington College. The senior tallied at least one shot in 15 of the Fords' 18 matches this fall.

Junior defender Ben Clark earned his first All-Centennial Conference recognition with his second-team accolade. Anchoring a defense that recorded eight shutouts this fall and allowed just one goal per game on average throughout the regular season, Clark started the first 16 games of Haverford's season. A three-year starter on the back line, the junior scored his first collegiate goal this fall at No. 23 Drew.

Senior co-captain Dorian Wirz earned All-Centennial Conference recognition for the third time in his career. The 2013 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year and honorable mention selection that season also earned first-team All-CC honors in 2016. Wirz earned honorable mention accolades in the midfield this year despite starting less than half of Haverford's conference matches. Wirz assisted on the game-winning goal in his season debut against Franklin & Marshall as the Fords were 4-2-1 in Centennial Conference play with Wirz on the field.

Men's soccer finished the 2017 season with a 10-5-3 overall record, including a 5-3-1 record in Centennial Conference matches. Haverford qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the seventh time in as many seasons under head coach Shane Rineer, falling to Dickinson as the Fords hosted a home Centennial Conference playoff game for the fifth straight season.
