Strong Results Aplenty as Men's Tennis Wraps Up ITA Southeast Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Haverford College men's tennis team wrapped up the fall season on the final day of ITA Southeast Regional play on Saturday at the University of Mary Washington and satelite sites within Fredericksburg, with some strong performances in the championship brackets and both James McKenzie and Justin Minerva reached the final of their respective flights. 

Competing in the Round of 16 of championship singles action, Andreas Wingert battled against Pranav Gadiraju of Johns Hopkins, with his Blue Jays opponent eventually taking a 6-3, 6-3 win to advance to the quarterfinals. In championship doubles, Justin Minerva and Stefan Johnson were halted by the pairing of Andrew Watson and Nick Spera of the host Mary Washington in the Round of 16, falling by an 8-4 decision.  

In B1 singles action, a charge from James McKenzie saw the sophomore win his quarterfinal matchup against Ryan Meyer of Mary Washington by an 8-3 final, and also grab the semifinal victory over Hellman Zhao of rival Swarthmore by an 8-4 tally. The impressive run for McKenzie was halted in the B1 final, as Lalith Suresh of Swarthmore grabbed the win with an 8-4 triumph.

The B3 singles flight also saw Haverford put forth a strong performance with Justin Minerva grabbing the win over Aaradith Ravichandran of Washington College by an 8-6 tally, advancing to the semifinal where he was an 8-2 winner over Mitch Desman of Salisbury. In the final which went deep into the night, Dominick Suwak of Shenandoah came away with an 8-5 win to take the B3 title after a back-and-forth battle. 

Elsewhere in the B3 bracket, Kirin Eicher dropped his quarterfinal meeting to Seb Dijkema of Marymount by an 8-6 tally. 

The ITA Southeast Regional marked the end of the Haverford Men's Tennis fall season, but the squad will now turn its attention to the spring dual match season with action beginning in late February. The full schedule will be made available in the coming months.
