HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 46 Haverford College men's tennis team (5-4, 2-0 CC) picked up their second straight Centennial Conference win of the season, sweeping Washington College (3-5, 0-1 CC) 9-0, inside Alumni Field House on Tuesday afternoon. The match was relocated from the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts to the Alumni Field House because of rainy weather in the Philadelphia area.

Haverford raced out to a quick lead taking all three doubles matches to begin the day. The pairing of James McKenzie and Kirin Eicher kicked off the winning ways for the Fords, defeating the team of David Kohl Perkins and Johannes Ludwigstorff by an 8-1 final.  In a tightly contested battle on court three, the duo of Adam Chow and Justin Minerva dispelled Jorge Urgal and Tiziano Chialva 8-6.

On court one, an epic battle showdown saw the Fords gain the upper hand, as the team of Marko Arboleda and Stefan Johnson took down Aaradith Ravichandran and Karl Hoegstedt 8-7 (7-4 super tiebreaker), in a match that saw some bonus tennis.

Already up 3-0 after doubles play, the Scarlet and Black kept their foot on the pedal entering singles play, as Aiden Kim quickly turned away Ryohei Kawai 6-1, 6-0, in flight two, to give the Fords a commanding 4-0 lead.

Flight four saw the clinching point secured by Haverford, as McKenize earned his second win of the day, stifling Ravichandran 6-3, 6-0, as the Fords took a 5-0 lead.

Court one was host to a true instant classic, as the battle of top-flight singles players took place. Arboleda of Haverford claimed set one 7-5, only to drop set two to Hoegstedt 6-2. In a decisive third set that went by super tiebreaker rules, Arboleda captured the set and the match by winning set number three 1-0 (10-6 super tiebreaker). The monumental 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6 super tiebreaker) win for Arboleda over 2023 ITA All-American Hoegstedt, handed the Scarlet and Black a 6-0 advantage.

Victories from Chow (defeated Urgal 8-3 in a pro-set) and Niki Lavu (defeated Ludwigstorff 6-2, 6-1) pushed the Haverford lead to 8-0, before Minerva capped off the 9-0 sweep with a 6-3, 7-6 (10-8 tiebreaker) win in a match that took just over two hours to complete.

Men's tennis will return to action Friday, April 5, as the 41st-ranked Salisbury Seagulls come to town for the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Match on the Bramall/Marshall Courts (4 p.m.).
