No. 39 Men’s Tennis Trounces Bears, 8-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's tennis team (10-7, 5-2 CC) defeated Ursinus (10-6, 2-5 CC) 8-1 Tuesday afternoon, picking up their fifth Centennial Conference win of the season, at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts on the campus of Ursinus College.

Ursinus picked up the first point of the day in doubles play, as the duo of Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer defeated Kirin Eicher and James McKenzie 8-1, to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. However, the pairing of Justin Minerva and Adam Chow took down Ethan Yu and Darby Rogers 8-4, to level the match at 1-1. On court three, the tandem of Danny Loder and Max Beckwith got past Noah Dichter and Deniz Finkel 8-6, to extend the Fords' lead to 2-1, with singles play looming.

Minerva carried his fantastic form from doubles play into singles play, as the junior dispelled Oberholtzer once again, 6-1, 6-3 in flight four, to push the Scarlet and Black lead up to 3-1. Next to him on court three was Chow, who turned away Rogers 6-4, 6-0, to earn Haverford's fourth point of the day. Flight five saw the Fords capture the clinching fifth point, as Niki Lavu prevailed over Teddy Snyder 6-3, 6-1. 

Over in the second flight, Stefan Johnson vanquished Ethan Yu 6-4, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker), while Chait Krishna claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker), victory over Finkel, to bump the Fords' advantage up to 7-1. In the top flight, Aiden Kim defeated Jespersen 6-4, 6-1, to seal the Haverford 8-1 victory over Ursinus.   

Men's tennis will close out the season in Carlisle, Pa. on Saturday, April 27 at 12 p.m against Dickinson., with their sights set on the Centennial Conference tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 1.
