Arboleda Named Rookie of the Year, Men's Tennis Earns Six All-CC Honors

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's tennis team was well represented on the Centennial Conference postseason awards, the conference office announced this afternoon. First-year Marko Arboleda earned CC Rookie of the Year honors, in addition to a slot on the All-Centennial Conference singles first team. 

In addition, the doubles pairing of Arboleda and Stefan Johnson took home a first-team spot, while Aiden Kim was named to the second-team for singles. Johnson also earned honorable mention singles recognition, joining senior co-captain Adam Chow on that list. 

Arboleda, the 18th ranked player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South region, enters the NCAA tournament after ranking second among singles players in the NCAA's Region III. The first-year from Chappaqua, N.Y. went 15-6 in his rookie singles campaign, including an 11-4 mark in dual-match action. Arboleda was 9-3 at the first flight and won six of his last nine singles matches. Arboleda is the fifth Haverford player to earn CC Rookie of the Year honors, with Andreas Wingert the last to earn the designation during the 2022 campaign. 

In doubles action, Arboleda and Johnson were among the premiere teams in the CC this season, going 8-9 overall, 5-7 in the dual-match season and 3-2 in CC play. The team delivered a key win over No. 32 Washington & Lee back on February 24 and also grabbed conference wins over Washington College, Gettysburg, and Franklin & Marshall.

Kim impressed during his sophomore campaign,going 11-5 during the dual-match season and 3-3 in CC play. His key victories included a win at No. 3 over Caleb Brightman of No. 38 Salisbury,  in addition to wins over the second-flight player from Stevens, Vivek Harinarayan and a conference win over Ursinus while playing No. 1 singles. He also tallied wins over Washington College and Gettysburg. 

In singles play, Johnson tallied a 3-8 mark in the dual-match season, and went 3-2 in CC play while Adam Chow was 7-1 overall during the dual-match season, including an unblemished 6-0 mark in CC play, with a 4-0 mark at the fifth flight. The senior finished the season on a six-match winning streak and went 7-3 over his last 10 matches. Additionally, Chow was named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team. 

Arboleda will represent the Fords at the NCAA Singles Championships in Saint Louis, Missouri later this month, with action slated to begin at Washington University in St. Louis on May 26. He became the first Haverford athlete since 2013 to garner inclusion in the NCAA singles championship.
