HAVERFORD, Pa. - On Saturday, the women's fencing team defended their home strips in the Alumni Field House at the D'Arnstein '09 Invitational, defeating Navy and William & Mary, although the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins pecked their way to the top in their victory over Haverford in the "Duel at Noon".

In the first match of the day against Navy, and the last against William & Mary, the Fords dominated early and sealed those wins by the end of the second round, the sabre squad leading the way 8-1 and 9-0, respectively. In the middle round, the sabristes continued to be the toughest fight for the dominant Johns Hopkins team, claiming three of the four total wins against the Blue Jays on the afternoon.

Sabriste Aamina Dhar turned in the best team percentage for the second week in a row, leading all scorers with a 5- 1 mark. Her only loss of the day came to Jenny Song of Johns Hopkins. The resurgent epee squad showed improvement and posted a combined 12 wins with the help of cross-over artist Caroline Donado, typically a leading sabriste.

In the foil, Petra Budavari showed her grit and grinded out four wins, including a nail-biting come from behind win down 4-1 with a minute left against Lucy Kasper of William & Mary. The foil matches also marked the debut of first-year Claudia van Vloten, who was 1-1 for the day.

The Fords will next be in action on December 4 as the Fords host Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, and Drexel inside Gooding '84 Arena for the Tri-Co Invitational. Those duels are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
