Women's Fencing Places Ninth at NIWFA Championships

MADISON, N.J. - On Saturday, March 5th, the Haverford women's fencing team wrapped up their season with a 9th place finish at the 95th annual National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association's Championships, held at Drew University.
 
The 13-team field was topped by neighbors Temple University, with Johns Hopkins and NYU in hot pursuit. Both the sabre and foil squads placed eighth in their respective brackets, led by strong performances in the "A" slots by Aamina Dhar in the sabre, at 7-5, and Golda Glasser in the foil, with a 6-6 record.
 
The epee squad finishing 11th, ahead of Navy and Bryn Mawr, with co-captain Maia Carvalho coming off the injured reserve for three key wins in the "A" slot. Both Dhar and Glasser qualified to the Individual Direct Elimination bouts held after the team competition. Dhar placed 12th of the 16 finalists, while Glasser was 13th, both just shy of All-Conference accolades.  
 
Princeton will host the NCAA DI Regional Championships next Saturday, as the post-season stretches out for Dhar and Glasser, as well as Rebecca Osbaldeston (sabre) and Sophie Gardiner (foil) all of whom have qualified. From there it may be on to Notre Dame for the NCAA Nationals, March 24-27.
