HAVERFORD, Pa. - On Saturday, February 26, the fencing alumni meet was a great success. More than a dozen alumni from as far back as 2009 came to fence in the Andy Kates Fencing Salle at 11 a.m., and then feasted outdoors until 3 p.m.

 

Many happy reunions occurred, new friendships were forged, old grudges were settled, and the current team were able to test their mettle on strip against such illustrious alumni as Emma Buckingham, 2009 EWFC and NIWFA epee champion and NCAA National finalist; Yan Yan Xie, 2017 NCAA Regional foil finalist; and John Hare, 2018 MACFA team sabre champion. 

 

Alumni and alumnae from the men's and women's fencing programs turned out in great number overalls. Alumns in attendance also included Amanda Soled '18, Alexandra Morrison '18, Zuyi Wang '20, Devin Louis '18, and Jack Leighninger '20. Current assistant coaches and alums Aldis Gamble '18, Alton Wiggers '21 and Kadan Lottick '20 were also in attendance.

 

Current assistant coaches Gamble, Wiggers, and Lottick, all alumni themselves, were a primary attraction, as well as the delicious meal from local Mediterranean food purveyor Hummus Restaurant. A chilly but beautiful day provided a great environment for feasting and socializing.

 

Haverford alumni events for next season are planned for Saturday, November 19th, 2022 - the D'Arnstein Invitational tournament held in the Alumni Fieldhouse - and for Saturday, February 25, 2023, the next Alumni Bouts and Banquet gala.
