Women's Fencing Battles Formidable Opponents at Philadelphia Invitational
PHILADELPHIA - This past Saturday, the women's fencing team competed against all Division I and Division II opponents at the Philadelphia Invitational, held at Penn's Tse Ping fencing center in the Hutchinson Gym. The Fords took down NIWFA rivals FDU, and hung tight in a close loss to Lafayette. Overall, the team gained valuable experience to take to their Division III opponents later in the season.

The sabre squad showed their experience and carried the team with the most individual wins, with 13, including a 6-3 drubbing against Lafayette; the foil squad pulled down 11 total wins. However, epeeist Nina Hamilton led the team with the highest win ratio, at 9-6 on the day.

For the sabre squad, Aamina Dhar and Caroline Donado worked on getting their grooves back after recovering from injury, with six and four wins apiece. Four wins is what foilists Sophie Gardiner and Nina Chafee were each able to contribute against formidable opponents, with Gardiner able to knock off highly-ranked opponents from UNC and NJIT. Walk-on novice Paola Delgado also notched her first NCAA win, as an embodiment of the entire team's improvement over the season thus far.

The Fords will next compete at the Sollee Invitational, held next Sunday at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
