Donado Tabbed An EWFC Woman of the Year Honorable Mention

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior Caroline Donado (Solebury, Pa.) of the Haverford College women's fencing team has been named an Honorable Mention recipient for the 16th annual Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Woman of the Year Award, the organization announced in a release late last week. 

Previously this season, Donado, a sabreist, wrapped up her collegiate fencing career with an All-Eastern Women's Fencing Conference first-team season after previously earning second-team honors during the 2019-20 campaign. Also this season, she competed at the NIWFA championships, finishing 12th. During the 2019-20 season, she qualified for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals and placed 32nd during the 2020 season. Academically, she has been named to the Absolute Fencing All-Academic Team and has been recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar. 

The award was implemented to recognize the fencer who best combines the triple standards of success in athletics, excellence in academics, and participation in extracurricular activities, and was decided through a postseason vote by the EWFC's 10 head coaches. Johns Hopkins foilist Alex McDonald took home the award. 

 ABOUT THE EASTERN WOMEN"S FENCING CONFERENCE
The EWFC was founded ahead of the 2000-01 campaign and includes charter members City College of New York, Hunter College, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Yeshiva University. Former program Bard College was replaced by Drew University in 2002-03, while Haverford College joined in 2005-06, Johns Hopkins University entered in 2007-08, and Vassar College came on board in 2014-15. And the conference most recently expanded to a record-high 10 teams with the additions of Wellesley College and Denison University for the 2021-22 edition of its Dual Meet & Individual Championships.
