Women's Fencing Begins Philly Invitational Stint With Top Competition
PHILADELPHIA - The Haverford College women's fencing team resumed the 2024-25 season with the 2025 lid-lifter at the University of Pennsylvania-hosted Philadelphia Invitational.

The round robin format offered the Fords a chance to test themselves against some of the nation's top fencing programs, including North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, and Penn State, during Saturday's action.

Round Four: North Carolina 27, Haverford 0
The Fords faced a formidable Tar Heels squad to begin their day, gaining valuable experience against a high-caliber opponent. Despite the tough result, the matchup provided critical learning opportunities for a young team.

Round Six: Johns Hopkins 25, Haverford 2
Haverford found its footing against the rival Blue Jays, with two hard-fought epee victories from Nina Hamilton, who bested Janie McSweeney and Mariela Abramson to get the Fords on the board.

Round Seven: Penn State 22, Haverford 5
The Fords finished Saturday with a strong showing against Penn State, highlighted by a pair of epee wins from Joselyne Malan over Claire Haas and Clarisse Tan. Nina Chafee and Nina Hamilton also secured victories in epee, while Sienna Chung added a sabre win over Amelia Baker.

The two-day Philadelphia Invitational now rolls on to Sunday, with action on the strips at the Tse Center starting at 8:30 a.m.

Haverford will face off against the host Quakers before taking on Yale, Temple, NJIT, and Duke.
