MADISON, N.J. – Haverford College's women's fencing team fell to Drew University, 20-7, on Saturday in a dual meet inside the Simon Forum. Drew secured victories in all three weapons, winning 6-3 in sabre and foil while taking epee by an 8-1 margin.
Haverford was able to hang right with the Rangers in several close bouts but was unable to overcome Drew's depth in the contest.
In sabre, Sienna Chung and Eleni Antoniades each secured a win for the Fords, with Carter Wood adding another victory to the team's total. The foil squad saw strong performances from Sophie Gardiner, who picked up two wins, and Paige Copenhaver. In epee, Nina Hamilton earned the only victory for Haverford.
Haverford will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 16, for the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championships, marking the first postseason competition of the season. The event will take place right back at Drew University with action slated for the Simon Forum in Madison, N.J.
