HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior Sophie Gardiner has been named to the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Division III All-Mid-Atlantic/South Region team for women's foil, as announced Monday night.
Gardiner earned the honor following an impressive performance at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional in Madison, N.J., where she placed 22nd overall—an 11-spot improvement from her 33rd-place finish last season. She won four bouts in the opening pool to advance further into the pool rounds where she defeated Penn State's Thea Fernandes before narrowly missing a spot in the regional final.
A standout throughout her career, Gardiner has collected numerous accolades, including NIWFA Second-Team All-Foil recognition last season and three EWFC All-Foil honors. Off the strip, she has excelled academically, earning spots on the NIWFA All-Academic Team, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large Team, and the PhillySIDA Academic At-Large Team a season ago.
