Fast start propels women's lacrosse to 7-4 victory at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. -- The Haverford College women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early three-goal advantage, and made it hold up the rest of the way, en route to a 7-4 victory over host Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference contest Saturday afternoon.

Perrin Downing needed less than four minutes to give the Fords (7-3, 3-1 CC) a 1-0 lead by netting an unassisted goal. Josie Ferri doubled the margin with her team-leading 33rd goal of the season at the 21:28 mark. Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds extended the advantage to 3-0, which would be the halftime score, with 10:09 left in the first half.

After trading goals to open the second half, Kenny Likes scored the eventual game-winning goal on a free-position shot with 20:31 left to play. The goal put Haverford in front 5-1.

Herrick-Reynolds led the Haverford offense with two goals. Grace Stockbower and Alexa Pesce also found the back of the net in the win.

Taryn Abbassian was strong in defeat for Dickinson (4-8, 1-3 CC) by recording a hat-trick.

Haverford goalkeeper Leah Hammerschlag turned aside five shots. In the first half, she made four saves to keep the Red Devils off-the-board. Dickinson's Jessie Clark stopped four shots.

Haverford returns to action on Wednesday, April 6, when it welcomes 10th-ranked Catholic University to Swan Field for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
