Ferri nets 100th career goal in 10-4 rout of Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – Josie Ferri scored her 100th career goal just over a minute into Wednesday's contest as the Haverford College women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Scranton, 10-4. Ferri tallied seven goals including four of the Fords' five unanswered scores to open the second half.

Megan Gallagher, Perrin Downing and Alexa Pesce also got in on the scoring for Haverford (2-0) while Gallagher added one assist.

After Ferri's opening tally Deanna Giorno scored for Scranton (0-1) four minutes later to even things up. Goals by Downing and Pesce midway through the first half gave the Fords a two-goal advantage, but it did not last long. In the final 10 minutes of the half Caroline Pryor and Jilliana DePaolera both scored to tie the score at 3-3.

In the first eight minutes of the second half Ferri scored three times and Gallagher added a free position goal to make the score 7-3. Ferri scored again near the 10-minute mark to cap off the Fords' remarkable run of five unanswered goals.

Kaitlin Lazorko broke the Royals scoreless streak with nine minutes remaining. Ferri added two more late goals to provide the final margin.

Leah Hammerschlag made nine saves in the victory for the Fords while Kathleen Smart came up with 10 saves for Scranton.

Haverford remains on the road, visiting Cabrini College Tuesday at 4 p.m.
