Second half comeback boosts women’s lacrosse to 8-7 win over McDaniel

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team fell behind visiting McDaniel College by three goals midway through the second half, but four unanswered goals to close out the game gave the Fords an 8-7 Centennial Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Swan field.

Haverford (5-3, 1-1 CC) tied the score with 4:08 left on Perrin Downing's goal. A Green Terror foul with 2:38 remaining set up Alex Pesce with a free position attempt and she connected for the game-winner.

The Fords' early first half two-goal advantage disappeared after McDaniel (1-6, 1-2) reeled off three consecutive goals. With less than 15 minutes to go Josie Ferri tied the score at 3-3, but late in the half Lisa Jurd scored for a 4-3 McDaniel lead heading into halftime.

The teams exchanged goals to open the second half and then Mary Tokolish and Brittany Lines scored goals seven minutes apart for a 7-4 advantage with 12:20 left.

Less than a minute after Lines' goal, Ferri found Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds who cut the deficit to two. Ferri won the ensuing draw control and was awarded a free position attempt. Ferri connected for her 30th goal of the season to pull HC within one.

The game went scoreless over the next seven minutes until Downing's goal tied the score. Downing's goal ended an impressive run of three straight man-down goals by the Fords. Haverford won the draw control after Downing's goal and held possession until Pesce's game-winner.

Leah Hammerschlag came up with seven saves in the win for Haverford while Aimee Semler made four in the losing effort for the Green Terror.

Ferri tallied three goals and one assist on the day. Herrick-Reynolds added two goals while Pesce had one goal and two assists.

Jurd led McDaniel with three goals and one assist. Ann Beaudry scored two goals and handed out an assist.

Haverford remains home Wednesday evening, hosting Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m.
