Young steps down from women’s lacrosse post

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Julie Young has resigned after three seasons as head coach of women's lacrosse at Haverford College to accept a similar position at Villanova University, the college announced Thursday afternoon.

Young led the Fords into the Centennial Conference tournament for the first time in 2010, reaching the championship game following a season in which her team set a program record for wins with 13. The 2011 squad also qualified for the league playoffs after posting the program's third consecutive double-digit wins total, a first for Haverford women's lacrosse.

Under the tutelage of Young, rising senior midfielder Josie Ferri earned 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America third team honors, the Fords' first all-American since 2000. Ferri is also a three-time IWLCA All-Metro Region and all-Centennial performer.

Young fostered a culture of success in the classroom as 18 of her players have been named to the Centennial's academic honor roll over the past three seasons, and Ferri was voted onto the 2011 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team.

A search for Young's replacement will begin immediately.
